Our international checking account (known as a 'current account' in the UK) is a flexible international bank account available in sterling, euros or US dollars that enables you to handle your day-to-day banking requirements, wherever you are.
The International Bank Account from Barclays Wealth International can be accessed via our Telephone and Online Banking service, or face-to-face at one of our Barclays Wealth International Banking Centres.
Debit cards are provided for sterling accounts and deferred debit cards are available with the euro and US dollar accounts. Cheque books are available on request.
If you qualify for iBank Plus banking service, or for the Relationship Manager service, you can apply for a Barclaycard Platinum Visa credit card. This is available in sterling and offers a credit limit of up to £1,000.
When applying for an account with Barclays Wealth International you can choose to hold the account in the UK or in our offshore centres in the Isle of Man or Jersey. How to open a checking account
We aim to make opening an international account with us as simple as possible.
You can apply for an International Bank Account with Barclays Wealth International online, by phone or in person at a Barclays Wealth International Banking Centre.
Apply for an account online
To open an account you need to provide one proof of identity (usually an original copy of your passport) plus one proof of your residential address (e.g. an original copy of a utility bill). Original copies of all documents are required. However, if you are applying online or by phone, you can provide photocopies certified by an authorised person.

Personal checking account
Our iBank international bank account provides personal checking account banking facilities, wherever you are in the world.
We provide a variety of iBank accounts designed to meet a range of needs, all for a low monthly fee. The iBank account is designed for those with £5,000 (or currency equivalent) deposited across the account, or for those with a minimum income of £24,000. It offers debit cards, savings, loans and mortgages as well as international payments.
For a small extra fee there is iBank Plus, which is for those with £10,000 in deposits, or a minimum income of £50,000. This provides a range of added-value services such as a medical helpline.
International students can enjoy a low-cost account designed for their banking needs both in the UK and abroad. Entry requirements include £1,000 (or currency equivalent) minimum opening balance, and acceptance into a recognised institution in the UK for at least nine months - full or part time. A £5 monthly fee applies.
If you want international access to a range of savings products that pay high interest, we offer the fee-free iBank Saver. To qualify, you need to deposit a gross income of £50,000 or more (or currency equivalent) to a Barclays Wealth account, or hold £10,000 or more (or currency equivalent) across the accounts you hold with us.

Online checking account
Our online checking account combines the ease of internet banking with a high level of security. As well as using the latest security technology to handle your electronic transactions, we provide you with a unique membership number and pass code so you can access your checking account balance.
We also offer a reduction on our standard international payments tariff for money transferred online which can be used for transactions of up to £50,000 or local currency equivalent per day.
Checking account services
Our international bank accounts allow you to check your account balance status at any time. This can be done online, by telephone or through a Relationship Manager.
Relationship Managers provide a pro-active service based on a close understanding of your needs. Instructions can be delivered at face-to-face meetings at our Knightsbridge branch, by telephone or through a secure email link.
This fee-free service is intended for those with either £50,000 (or currency equivalent) or more deposited with us or who have an income of at least £100,000 or more a year to mandate in to an account with us.
